At Smart BioMaterials Center (SBMC), you will play a key role in ensuring our Development Facility operates safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards. As Interim Manager Development Facility, you will lead our laboratory operations during a six-month maternity leave replacement while contributing to pioneering innovations in regenerative medicine and biomaterials.

Your Role

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of SBMC's Development Facility. You ensure laboratory operations run smoothly, support and coach the technical team, maintain compliance with quality and safety requirements, and continuously optimise laboratory processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all operational activities within the Development Facility.
  • Manage laboratory planning, organisation, purchasing and inventory.
  • Ensure laboratories, equipment and infrastructure remain safe, compliant and fully operational.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance, calibration and qualification.
  • Coach, supervise and evaluate laboratory team of technicians and scientists.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 13485, laboratory safety standards and internal quality procedures.
  • Act as permit owner and ensure ongoing compliance with all required licenses and permits, including Environmental Permit, ML-I/ML-II, BSL-II and Animal By-Product regulations.
  • Serve as process owner for key Quality Management System (QMS) processes, including Purchasing, Training, Supplier Management, Infrastructure & Work Environment, and Identification & Traceability.
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including building management, suppliers, TU/e, service providers and other relevant partners.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across laboratory operations and quality systems.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Regenative Medicine or a related life sciences discipline.
  • At least four years of experience managing a laboratory or similar technical environment.
  • Knowledge of ISO 13485 and QMS.
  • Knowledge of ML-I/ML-II regulations, animal by-products and working with patient-derived materials.
  • Hands-on knowledge of mammalian cell culture, cell assays, histology, material fabrication and biomaterial characterization techniques.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills with a proactive, hands-on approach.
  • Fluent English, both written and spoken.
